__________________________ Windows Disk Management:- __________________________ Disk Management is a system utility in Windows that enables you to perform advanced storage tasks. Here are some of the things Disk Management is good for: ~ To setup a new drive, see Initializing a new drive. ~ To extend a volume into space that's not already part of a volume on the same drive, see Extend a basic volume. ~ To shrink a partition, usually so that you can extend a neighboring partition, see Shrink a basic volume. ~ To change a drive letter or assign a new drive letter, see Change a drive letter. ___________________________________ Why Need Partitioning Hard Disk :- ___________________________________ Ever wish you could split your hard drive in two? Maybe you want to encrypt a portion of your drive for sensitive files, or maybe you want do dual-boot Linux alongside Windows. It's actually easy to do, and all the necessary tools are built right into Windows. This process is called partitioning your drive, and in fact, your drive is probably partitioned out of the box: the majority of the drive is occupied by the C: partition, If you aren't using all the space on your C: drive, here's how to divide it into multiple partitions for other uses. * In general, each notebook users bought only contains a drive C. I. When the system needs to be restored, the entire drive C (it is the system disk) will be formatted. Thus, all information saved in the system disk will be lost. II. Saving massive information on system partition will slow down the computer. III.Different types of data should be saved in different partitions. IV. After disk partitioning, the size of cluster will be smaller. Cluster is the smallest storage unit, and the operating system determines that a cluster can only store the contents of a file. Therefore, space occupied by a file can only be an integer multiples of the cluster. ___________________________ ~* Some Important Terms :- ___________________________ 1. Shrink Volume:- You can decrease the space used by primary partitions and logical drives by shrinking them into adjacent, contiguous space on the same disk. For example, if you discover that you need an additional partition but do not have additional disks, you can shrink the existing partition from the end of the volume to create new unallocated space that can then be used for a new partition. Neither expanding nor shrinking a partition requires formatting. 2. Delete Volume:- If there are any partitions that you no longer need and you want to free the drive space that they occupy, you can delete them using the same Disk Management tool. Take note though, that before you delete a partition, you should always make sure that there are no important files on it, as everything on it is going away too. 3. Extend Volume:- You can use Disk Management to add space to an existing volume, extending it into empty space on the drive, but only if the empty space doesn't have a volume on it (it's unallocated) and comes immediately after the volume you want to extend, with no other volumes in-between, as shown in the video.
